Who We Are
Lewkowich Engineering Associates Ltd. (LEA) is a professional engineering services firm, established locally in 1994. LEA provides geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and hazardous building materials testing services to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and the surrounding Gulf Islands, with offices in Nanaimo and Courtenay. We have a fulltime team of thirty-five employees, including Professional Engineers and Geoscientists, certified technologists and technicians, industrial hygienists, and administration staff.
At LEA, we work with our clients to solve design and construction related issues for commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure projects. LEA aims to provide practical solutions that save time and cost, and contribute to a safer community. Who You Are
You are a detailed oriented individual who enjoys working both in the field and in an office environment.
You enjoy working as part of a team in a professional environment, while also being able to work independently with strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
You are comfortable and have experience working on construction sites. Prior experience with earthworks/concrete construction and an interest in construction technology.
You are a proactive person, but also someone who can react efficiently and effectively to manage problems.
Key Qualifications
- Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering.
- Registered with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
- A minimum 10-years of relevant experience in the Geotechnical Engineering field. Local BC experience strongly
preferred. - Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required.
- You must be proficient with technical writing and have experience with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Key Duties
- Site investigation and geotechnical design, specifically related to site characterization of soil and rock, hazard assessments and mitigative solutions, shallow and deep foundation design, and construction support from project tendering to construction inspections.
- The position requires a strong background in report writing, specifications, and project management.
- Coordinate, execute, and manage site investigations and quality assurance programs.
- Complete geotechnical hazard assessments including seismic, slope, flood, and undermining hazard assessments.
- Shallow and deep foundation design including bearing and settlement analysis.
- Marine and land base piling analysis and design is an asset.
- MSE wall and temporary shoring design.
- WorkSafeBC excavation assessments for temporary excavation stability.
- Proficiency with current geotechnical software applications. Including by but not limited to GeoStudio (Slope/W, Sigma/W, etc.), Rocscience (Slide2/3, Settle3, Rockfall, etc.), ReSSA, MSEW, and GEO5.
- Mentor junior and field staff in the development of proposals, technical analysis and design, reports, and all design and construction documentation.
- Must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and on budget.

- This is a permanent, full-time position, offering a 40-hour work week, and a Monday to Friday schedule.
- Competitive base salary of $120,000 to $150,000 per year depending on experience.
